Updated: Oct 4, 2020

We have been running scout meetings through out the summer. June/July

As scouts usually are operating in patrols we are able to maintain social distancing. We started back by teaching our scouts about PPE. How to put it on and dispose of it safely. Although changes in the guide lines have allowed us to have multiple patrols meeting the basics stay the same.

As it became more acceptable to mix

with others some of our scouts got involved with the tidy towns group in Templeogue.

They assisted in the planting of the flower boxes in and brightening up the village for all to enjoy

Once lock down was lifted we headed for the hills. Our first hike was a short excursion around lough Bray

Divided into 2 scout patrols and a parent /

Scouter group we braved the weather.

Following the track down and along the lake. We then climbed up up to the "eagle's nest" and followed the path high above the lake . Finally we slid back down to the lake and back to the carpark.

At our weekly meetings we have 6-8 scouts. We focused our energy on how to make scouting work with the various restrictions. Hammocks were the answer. We bought 10 cheap hammocks and tarps and learned how to set them up

It just wouldn't be scouting if we just got to tie them to a tree. Each patrol was challenged to use only 2 trees but to hang 3 hammocks. This meant building a secure structure.

Hammocks were pitched and tested.

The scouts looked forward to the opportunity to try them on an overnight.

This time we started from Tibradden woods and headed up the mountain along the Dublin Mountain way. When we met the Wicklow way we followed it South to Bornaraltry Woods.

After a stop for lunch we went out onto Glendoo Mountain. Reaching the fence at the top we turned North and followed it to the top of the board walk in Cruagh Woods. It was a short walk through the woods back to Tibradden Car park
